Subject: Potential plant extension: – feedback from the local planning officer
_______________________________________________________________________
Dear Mr. Gerter,
As requested this is the feedback from my telephone conversation (10th August 2020) with the local planning officer in the Chennai City Council.
The local planning authority officer, Kamir Patel, advised that the Aamoor Bird Sanctuary is closest Protected Area to APEC Kolath. As it is 5km away there is no obligation to comply with regulations regarding protecting biodiversity and ecosystems, within or near the site boundary.
He did advise that the area between the factory and the bird sanctuary contained large numbers of Long Tailed Duck (Clangula hyemalis) and River Tern (Sterna aurantia) until the opening of APEC’s production facility. Only a few remain. In addition, no migratory Siberian Cranes (Grus leucogeranus) have been seen in the Aamoor Bird Sanctuary for 3 years. I have attached pictures of these birds, which are species on the national conservation list, for information.
Regards
Lalit
