Packaging materials

APEC Kolath uses a large number of metal and plastic containers for packaging. Painted components and assemblies are put in bespoke vacuum formed plastic trays that are then packed in stillages. Cardboard sheets are laid between the layers to protect the components. Erfde Automotive have a “no disposable packaging” policy so that all disposable packaging supplied by APEC Kolath is returned to their site for disposal. Their account is debited with the cost of this.

Plastic containers, cardboard boxes and plastic sacks are used for the transport of materials within the factory and store materials on the shop floor next to workstations. The plastic boxes and sacks are reused whenever appropriate. Shredded paper from the office is normally disposed of in skips as general waste.

Oil and paint are both delivered on a wooden pallet with four 205-litre drums on top. These banded together and are wrapped in plastic film to protect them in transit. This packaging is removed in goods inwards to make handling the drums easier. This film and banding are disposed of as general waste. Other packaging materials such as paper and cardboard used by suppliers to deliver other raw materials and small components are disposed of as general waste.
